8 Ways To Spark Your Creativity

These 8 Ways to Spark Your Creativity might be just what you need if you’ve been feeling stuck or uninspired lately. You’re not alone—and the good news is that your creative spark can be reignited with just a few simple shifts.

In this post, I’ll walk you through eight easy, practical ways to get your ideas flowing again, PLUS a Bonus Tip that happens to be one of my personal favorites. Scroll to the end for a special invitation if you’re craving a creative community to help keep that momentum going.

Tip 1: Move Away From Imperfection

Creativity thrives when you stop trying to get it “just right”. Let go of perfect and lean into play because that’s where the magic shows up! For example, I may not feel like a master of the jig saw, but I know enough to have fun…thank goodness I don’t let that perfectionist mindset keep me from creating and honing my skill.

Tip 2: Make Your Surroundings Inspirational Too

Your surroundings have a big impact on your creative flow. The decor, colors, and little details in your crafty space should reflect your vibe and make you feel good. Even something as simple as a glowing candle, the warm light of a lamp, or a few cozy textures can set the perfect mood for creating. And if you don’t have a dedicated craft room, no worries—just find a spot that inspires you and make it your go-to place whenever you’re ready to get crafty.

Tip 3: Create A Little Every Day

Simply spending 10 minutes a day being creative adds up, forming a beautiful habit. It doesn’t have to be fancy…paint a swatch, doodle a flower, tear some paper. Just get your hands moving. Even simple projects mean you get to use your creativity each day.

Tip 4: Keep a Creative Journal

Flowered Journal

Write down anything that sparks your interest—ideas, quotes, random thoughts, or little things you notice and love. It’s like snapping quick photos in your mind, saving those moments so you can flip back through them when you need a burst of inspiration. It can be your own personal, Pinterest board. You’ll be amazed at all the inspiration you’ll find around you when you keep a dedicated journal.

Tip 5: Try Group Learning

Take a class, join a club or a group, or simply craft with a friend. Creative sparks fly in community. There’s just something about sharing the journey that brings out your brightest ideas. When you surround yourself with other creative people, it enhances the creativity that already lives inside you. Tip 6: Make Time For Rest

Don’t try to force it—creativity doesn’t work that way. Sometimes the best thing you can do for your ideas is to step away for a bit. Go for a walk, take a nap, or linger over a slow morning with your coffee. Those moments of rest aren’t something you have to “earn.” They’re actually an essential part of the process. When you give yourself permission to pause, you create space for fresh ideas to find you.

Tip 7: Change Your Scenery

Sometimes all it takes is a little change of scenery to spark something new. Moving from your desk to the porch, or from the kitchen to your studio, can breathe fresh life into your ideas. A day trip—or even a full-on vacation—can work wonders, too. And don’t underestimate the small things: switching up your playlist, pouring a new drink into your favorite cup, or wandering through a thrift store or plant nursery can completely shift your mood and get your creativity flowing again.

Tip 8: Make Something Just For YOU

Not every project has to have some big purpose or end goal—sometimes the best reason to create is simply because it makes you happy. Give yourself permission to make something just for you, without worrying if it’s “good enough” or if anyone else will ever see it. You don’t have to sell it, post it, or make it perfect. Let it be messy, imperfect, and completely yours. Create because the process lights you up inside, because it makes you smile, and because it reminds you why you fell in love with making things in the first place.

Bonus Tip: Get Organized & Keep a Tidy Space

People love to joke that all creatives are a “hot mess,” but honestly? My creativity doesn’t thrive in chaos. Maybe you’re the same way. I’ve found that when my space is organized—even just a little—it makes such a difference. It’s not about having a picture-perfect studio or labeling every single jar (though that can be fun, too). It’s more about creating a space where your mind can relax because it isn’t distracted by clutter.

For me, that means starting each project with a clear surface and knowing where my favorite tools are. It’s amazing how much mental energy you save when you’re not digging through piles to find the scissors or hunting down that one perfect ribbon. The more I work toward a tidy, intentional creative space, the more breathing room my ideas have.

Now, right after I’m done creating—that’s another story entirely (it can look like a hurricane just came through, lol). But I actually enjoy the ritual of putting everything back in its place afterwards. It feels like a reset button, ready for the next moment of inspiration.
