Embossed Paint Technique on Thrifted Sign

  • Citristrip Gel
  • Chemical Gloves
  • Metal Scraper
  • Chip Brush
  • Odorless Mineral Spirits

STEPS Overview for Embossed Paint Technique:

(read & watch video below to help understand the process)

1-The idea is to mix a bit of joint compound into your paint, then paint on and press with embossed paper (or any type of material to act as an embossed stamp)…work in sections….you can even go back over the spots to try and pull up more paint

Note: your background color will matter….my sign had to be stripped a bit to give me a fresh stained background to work with…..if you want a similar look, paint or stain your background first!

2- Once dry, add a paint wash for additional interest. An easy way to do that is apply the paint, spray with mist of water and wipe back to create that paint wash glaze look.

3- Next…..my sign was made using rubber stamps (linked in supply list)…. a great tip for stamping a sign this large is to lay down painter’s tape as a guide
