This simple DIY was a unique twist on a traditional suncatcher! It all started when I bought some fun, new decoupage paper & I was looking for a beautiful way to use it! Originally, I thought the paper would be opaque, but I decided to give it a try anyway! It ended up diffusing the light beautifully!

I was drawn to this vintage floral & tile design!

I’ll share a VIDEO TUTORIAL below, but here are the STEPS!

  1. Brush mod podge over entire acrylic circle
  2. While mod podge is still wet, attach rice paper (be sure you flip over the rice paper before glueing down…… because the side you are looking at is technically the back)….smooth any bubbles out working from the center. I did this with my hands, but you could use a brayer roller too
  3. Use a sanding block to run along the edges. It will score the excess rice paper and make clean edges.
  4. Now brush on one final sealing coat of mod podge to the same side you glued down. **just note there will be one side of the acrylic circle that never gets brushed with mod podge
  5. For added embellishment, take decorative cording and use hot glue to attach to edge.
  6. Use a pick to open back up hole that is drilled into acrylic….cut fishing line to use for hanging and string through hole and tie.
  7. Find the perfect window in your home to hang or display on an easel.
