If you haven’t yet discovered the power and magic of a chalk paint makeover, then this post is for YOU!! I have been a chalk paint lover for years & am still amazed at what a little paint can do for furniture & decor!

Why chalk paint?! There are many reasons to list, but I’ll try haha! First, you should know not all brands are created equally. Now most I’ve tried do work about the same on small crafts & decor makeovers. If we’re talking painting furniture/cabinetry, that’s a different story! My preferred paint brand is Dixie Belle Paint, so that’s what you’ll see me use often!

Okay, okay the list of reasons….

  1. it adheres so well to most surfaces without any special primer {I can vouch personally that Dixie Belle brand works on fabric as well}
  2. it has a lovely, matte finish
  3. distresses beautifully with sanding sponge or electric sander
  4. dries incredibly fast
  5. no harsh smells/fumes {I prefer painting indoors as often as possible}

If you don’t like the matte finish, you can always spray or brush on a protective coat with a satin or gloss sheen. If I’m working on a door hanger for example, I’ll give it a good clear coat with Krylon or Rustoleum satin spray! Works wonders for extra protection!! But if I’m doing something like a lamp, frames, baskets, ceramic, wall shelf etc., I typically skip any added clear coat. I LOVE the matte finish mixed in my decor and have never had an issue with chipping or peeling!

Now….the items you’ll see me makeover in the craft video below were literally plucked from a box in my “Monica Closet” guest bedroom haha! It’s since been cleaned up lol, but that’s a whole other story!! I was no longer using this decor because it wasn’t my style anymore.

Anywho, all you need for some quick makeovers is something to clean your pieces, chalk paint color of your choice, brushes & sanding sponge if you want to distress your items like I do! I prefer using a 120 grit sand paper on most projects!

Wasn’t that super quick & easy!!?? Let me know if you try this out on some outdated or thrifty finds of your own!! Might I add that painting like this is such great therapy too! Keep scrolling & you’ll see close-ups of all the items I made over in the video!

P.S. If you decide to try chalk paint on furniture or cabinetry, I recommend additional steps to ensure you get a great end result!
