DIY Jack-o’-Lantern made from Vintage Amber Jug
Sometimes you just KNOW! I was at one of my favorite vintage, thrifty stores and came across this beautiful vintage Amber Gallon Jug….an A&W Root Beer one to be exact.
I IMMEDIATELY envisioned a Jack-O’-Lantern & brought that vision to life during a Facebook Live. You can watch that video HERE to see it & the other items from my vintage haul OR scroll below for a short overview video of the steps.
I’m also including the supplies & steps in case you would like to try something similar. I think this concept would look amazing on all sizes/color of jars/jugs!
Here are the SUPPLIES I used: (I’m including referral sources online for some of the products I used….they are highlighted in ORANGE, so click on those if you need a source. Hope that helps ya!)
- Vintage Amber Gallon Jug (mine was an IBC Root Beer one)
- Mod Podge Matte
- Book Page Tissue Paper (I think I got this at Hobby Lobby)
- Small Paint Brush
- Fall Acorn Pick (Hobby Lobby)
- Fairy Lights
- Floral Wire
- Raffia
- Pencil
- Scissors
Here are the STEPS:
- I wiped down jug with rubbing alcohol to prep & clean
- I free-handed a jack-o’-lantern face onto come book page tissue paper I had on hand
- I cut out all the pieces of the face
- Next, I brushed mod podge onto the back of each piece of the face & placed on the jug
- If you need to redo the face or remove the paper, just peel off and clean again with rubbing alcohol
- I wrapped a floral pick around the handle
- Then took a bunch of raffia to create a basic shoestring bow. I looped it through the handle before tying.
- Next I added some fairy lights inside of jug.
- I used a bit of floral wire and wrapped around the battery pack and wrapped around threads of jug to attach and keep the battery pack from falling down into jar. (I do think that lights with a timer would be great for this project as well)
This was seriously SO EASY & best part is you can easily remove the paper face. Just peel it off & wipe the mod podge residue off with some rubbing alcohol. This was you can leave the jug out all year long or come up with a different idea for another season!
This one is truly charming & unique and I hope you’re inspired to create one similar! Thanks for stopping by the blog! –Summer 😉
