DIY Mini Flags on Thread Spools
These cute & simple DIY Mini Flags were made during a Facebook live! I don’t know about you, but I absolutely LOVE no-sew fabric crafts……and the spool was the perfect base!
You could easily repurpose some vintage spools for this project, but I chose to use items that were easily accessible for those inspired to create too!
Choose fabrics that match your other patriotic decor & paint/distress the base to your liking!
Perfect in tiered trays, decor gatherings or alone to add some love for America around your home!
I’ll share the supplies I used & simple steps in case you’re interested in making!
You’ll also find a Short & Longer Video below in case you want to see them being made!
Here are the SUPPLIES I used:
- Patriotic Fabric (Hobby Lobby)
- Wooden Spools (Hobby Lobby SKU#449942)
- Skinny Sticks (Walmart)
- Spanish Moss
- Waverly Brown Antique Wax
- Off-white Chalk Paint
- Hot Glue Gun
- Scissors
- Rag
- Paint Brush
- Sanding Block
Here are some SIMPLE STEPS if you want to create your own DIY Mini Flags:
Step 1-
- using a rag, I rubbed antiquing wax on to unfinished spool & stick
- use a dry brush to paint off-white chalk paint onto spool, after it’s dry, use sanding block to distress
- Cut 1 big rectangle out of red striped fabric & 2 smaller rectangles out of blue fabric
- Glue fabric onto flat skinny sticks
- Something I did to keep my stick from falling through hole was stuff scrap fabric into spool hole. Depending on what type of stick/spool you use, you may can skip this step.
- Glue mini flag into spool
- Lastly, glue a little spanish moss on top of spool for added embellishment
I just can’t get over how cute they are!
I had fun styling these sweet little, mini flags with some vintage treasures!
Another way I used the Spool Flags was in this DIY Dollar Tree Caddy!
Be sure to PIN this one for Later!
Thanks so much for stopping by! Hope you’re inspired to make some of your own! -Summer
