This beautiful & simple project is an New Take on an older project of mine. TAP HERE to see that one! It was so pretty, but I wanted to revisit and try a paint technique on the glass!

I’ll include a Short Video Tutorial, Supply List & Steps Overview below! I just LOVE it & hope you are inspired to try one too!

SUPPLIES I used: (I’m including referral sources highlighted in GREEN for some of the products I used. Hope that helps ya!)

  • Glass Candle Holder/Bowl (Dollar Tree)
  • Jute String (Walmart)
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Silicone Finger Protectors (mine came from Dollar Tree, but if you can’t find them Click Here to see some similar on Amazon)
  • Mod Podge Matte
  • Folk Art Matte Acrylic Paint in color “Cinnamon”
  • Paint Brushes
  • Spanish Moss
  • Wood Piece for stem (Dollar Tree)
  • Greenery Floral Pick (Hobby Lobby item#410027)
  • Battery Operated Fairy Lights OR Flameless Votive Candle (Walmart)
  • Rubbing Alcohol/Paper Towel

STEPS Overview for this Glowing Pumpkin:

(the video above will definitely help you see these steps come to life)

  • 1) Prepare glass by cleaning with Rubbing Alcohol…this will remove residue/oils so that hot glue & paint will stick nicely to surface. Once completely dry, move on to painting
  • 2) Mix the Mod Podge (3 parts) & Paint (1 part) and apply with brush on the inside of glass bowl
  • note: if you don’t like the looks of the streaks, let the first coat dry & then apply a 2nd coat of the mod podge/paint mixture. I would let the paint/mod podge dry before moving on. I didn’t do that & got paint on my fingers a few times and had to touch up lol.
  • 3) Hot Glue 3 pieces of Jute String on the outside of bowl to create sections of pumpkin. I do suggest wearing finger protectors for this step, as you’re working very closely with hot glue. The length of string will vary on what size bowl you choose to use.
  • 4) Hot Glue Wood Piece for stem on top of pumpkin. I turned my bowl upside down, as you can probably tell from the picture/video tutorial.
  • 5) Hot Glue Spanish Moss & Greenery Pieces around stem. I even used some of the brown wire from floral pick to make pumpkin tendrils.
  • 6) After gluing in greenery, I hot glued a touch more moss to cover any stems/glue dobs. I think that gives it a nice, finished look.
  • 7) Lastly……You have several options to make it light up. I showed flameless/flickering votive candle and battery operated fairy lights in my tutorial and pictures. Both are great choices, but give slightly different looks. DO NOT use real candles in the project. It would definitely be a fire hazard.
