The Video above will help with explaining the How-To, but I wrote out some steps below as well!
Step 1: Preparing Your Wallpaper
Begin by cutting your wallpaper to fit the plaque. If your plaque has a raised edge, press the wallpaper firmly onto the plaque to create an impression, making it easier to trim to size.
Step 2: Attaching the Wallpaper
Once you have your embossed wallpaper cut to the correct size, apply a good coat of mod podge and then use a bit of hot glue to secure it in place. This ensures it stays put while you paint and antique it later. Smooth it down for a clean finish.
Step 3: Painting & Antiquing
Paint the entire plaque with FolkArt Vintage White and allow it to dry completely. Once dry, it’s time to add depth and dimension using a simple glazing technique.
- For the First Egg: Apply “Mushroom” paint and wipe it back with a baby wipe, leaving paint in the grooves for a lightly aged effect.
- Second Egg: Repeat process, but with “Burnt Umber” for a richer antique look.
- Third Egg: Repeat process, but with “Iced Coffee”
- Final Detail on the Eggs:Â Use StazOn Ink in Timber Brown to darken the edges, making them pop for a truly vintage finish.
Step 4: Adding the Perfect Touches
Now, let’s bring this project to life with a few extra embellishments for the styling:
- I downloaded a vintage-style flashcard design from my Easter Essence printable bundle, printed on white cardstock & cut it out.
- To give it a timeworn feel, I applied antiquing wax and a bit of Timber Brown ink.
- A brown floral ripped fabric strip and an Osnaburg muslin strip were also antiqued and tied onto a basket for a cohesive rustic look.
- And you’ll see a little sprig of green berry bush under the tied fabric as well
Don’t you just LOVE all those textures!?
Step 5: Styling & Displaying
A beautiful thrifted basket, plus a nest of rustic faux grass was the perfect foundation for all the elements to come together….resulting in the loveliest Easter/spring gathering!
