Dollar Tree Valentine Makeover Before & After

What an AMAZING Before & After right?!

While love creating beautiful decor using Dollar Tree items because it’s budget friendly, it really is just a Fun Challenge!

The Video Above is a LIVE Facebook REPLAY of the Dollar Tree Valentine Makeover…you can watch and/or see the STEPS listed out Below!

  • To begin, I removed paper heart & cut off jute hanging string
  • Then I placed a small piece of painter’s tape on backside to cover the tiny string hole…I then filled hole from the front with hot glue until it was even with the thickness of the mdf
  • Once glue was cooled, I applied 1 coat of Truffle Chalk Paint over the entire front
  • Once that brown paint was dry, I applied a coat of Plaster Chalk Paint to the top area of envelope
  • I also applied the Plaster Chalk Paint to the bottom portion of envelope, but before it has any time to dry, I drug the painter’s comb horizontally and vertically to create a Faux Linen Finish
  • Next, time to decoupage….I applied mod podge to top portion of envelope and while it was still wet I placed down the Rice Paper Vintage Typewriter design
  • I used the gator zip sander to score edges at top to release excess paper
  • Also, I had to use an exacto knife to remove excess paper where top and bottom portions of the envelope meet

A reminder as I finished letting you know the Steps….you DO NOT have to use each & every supply I do….look around your stash & find similar items!

  • Next, I used my Rosette IOD Silicone Mould & IOD Air Dry Clay to create a “Wax Seal” like embellishement ( I didn’t show this in the video tutorial….I dusted the mould with cornstarch, pressed clay into mould and let dry 20-30min before glazing and glueing onto envelope)
  • Before I glued rosette, I needed to apply some Brown Antique Wax….After linen finish & mod podge has dryed, I brushed wax all over the linen finish and wiped back with baby wipe
  • I used a brush to apply heavier wax look around edges….this creates really beautiful shading and depth
  • I also applied the same wax to the clay rosette to highlight those beautiful details…wipe back excess
  • Next, I went ahead and used a bit of Tight & Bond glue+Hot Glue to attach clay rosette
  • I then decided to hot glue cotton braided cording to create the outline of an envelope
  • For embellishments, I made a simple Osnaburg Fabric Bow, tied with jute string in middle
  • Lastly, I hot glued some Green Berry Bush sprigs & Cream Delphinium blooms, then nestled the bow on top of those…securing with hot glue

Finally, the Reimagined Vision was Complete! I couldn’t be Happier with it & I hope you’re inspired in some way!
