Here are the STEPS for the Dollar Tree Valentine’s Envelope Makeover:

  • To begin, I removed paper heart & cut off jute hanging string
  • Then I placed a small piece of painter’s tape on backside to cover the tiny string hole…I then filled hole from the front with hot glue until it was even with the thickness of the mdf
  • Once glue was cooled, I applied 1 coat of Truffle Chalk Paint over the entire front
  • Once that brown paint was dry, I applied a coat of Plaster Chalk Paint to the top area of envelope
  • I also applied the Plaster Chalk Paint to the bottom portion of envelope, but before it has any time to dry, I drug the painter’s comb horizontally and vertically to create a Faux Linen Finish
  • Next, time to decoupage….I applied mod podge to top portion of envelope and while it was still wet I placed down the Rice Paper Ripped Paper Heart design

You can decoupage so many different things instead of this exact design…..such as, a napkin, tissue paper, scrapbook paper, fabric & more!

  • I used the gator zip sander to score edges at top to release excess paper
  • Also, I had to use an exacto knife to remove excess paper where top and bottom portions of the envelope meet
  • Then, I sealed the printable with another coat of mod podge.
  • Before I start glueing on embellishments, I decided to create a paint wash with Sandstone paint & a little mist of water and apply over the faux linen part of the envelope…wipe back excess with baby wipe too.
  • Once everything all dry, I used a combination of both inks and my dobber to define/distress edges and create depth & dimension of envelope shape.
  • For embellishments, I hot glued a button and then added a touch of distessing with ink dobber.
  • I also printed out tag on cardstock, ripped the edges, crumpled, inked, & sanded with gator sander to create a nice aged tag. Hole punched & tied on jute string.
  • Next, I made a simple Osnaburg Fabric Bow with my bow maker
  • Lastly, I stapled some baby’s breath springs & distressed paper tag before glueing on the bow
finished look of Dollar Tree Valentine's Envelope

This beautiful piece would look great as:

  • a Basket Filler
  • a Wreath Attachment
  • a Leaner
  • even mounted onto a larger framed sign
