Easter Fabric Garland

Give me all the cute fabric! I am no seamstress, but I have become a little obsessed with buying fabric lol and I LOVE a good no-sew project! Shabby fabric garlands are so cute & the possibilities are endless! For this one I decided to use soft cream, gray, blue & green to create an Easter/spring garland…and what’s even cooler is I can change out the Easter shapes to something more generic for springtime.

If you haven’t seen the embossed paper at Hobby Lobby…let me tell you, it is so beautiful! It kind of looks like stamped metal, & this particular pattern is reminiscent of vintage ceiling tin. It has a beautiful pearl finish, but it is paintable to match any project you want to use it for because it’s much thicker than cardstock.

You can find this speciality paper on the card stock aisle Hobby Lobby & if it’s 50% off, it’s $1 per 12x12in sheet. For this project & used about one and a half sheets. Keep scrolling & you’ll see pics of all the steps as well as intructions! Let me know what you think!!!

Here are the SUPPLIES I used:

Step 1: I decided to use my garland on my fireplace so that determined how long of a garland I was making. My garland needed to be 5ft and that gave me room to add 4 bunnies & 4 eggs as extra embellishment. You just need to decide where you’re using yours so you’ll know how long to make it.

Step 2: Because I wanted my garland to be 5ft in length, I cut a piece of twine about 7ft so I’d some extra on the ends to tie knots.

Step 3: I picked out 4 different fabrics, and decided I wanted each strip to be about 1in-1.5in. I made a little cut…… & then pulled to rip. You can choose how much fabric you use, just depends on how full you’re wanting it to be. I liked my length of each strip to be 16-17in, so I cut all my pieces to be double that length.

Step 4: Start tying the pieces in whatever pattern you’d like. I chose 4 fabric designs and I just tied each one on & started over & over again. Do this until your garland is as long and full as you’d like.

Using wood bunny and egg to trace onto embossed paper

Step 5: I used small wooden Dollar Tree bunny and egg cutouts as templates to trace onto the embossed paper. You could also just sketch free-handed shapes or find another template resource. Then I simply cut out with scissors!

using white chalk paint to paint bunny and egg cutouts

Step 6: I chose to paint mine with white chalk paint. This particular paper has a pearl white finish, but I wanted a more matte look so that’s why I chose to paint.

using a hole punch to make holes in egg and bunnies

Step 7: Once all shapes were dry, I used a whole punch to create a hole to attach to garland.

Step 8: I laid out the fabric garland and decided to trim up any strips that looked way to long. I then set out the shapes where they would be attached.

Step 9: Then I used the closest piece of fabric to each egg or bunny & pulled through hole, tied a knot & that knot held the shapes in place. Then I simply trimmed off the excess fabric.

Step 10: All finished, so time to hang on my mantel! Isn’t it so cute?!

I still have a few more Easter and spring decor to put out, but I love the shabby chic, vintage simplicity look it has! I hope you’re inspired to create one of your very own! If you do, I’d LOVE to see how yours turns out! I also made over the cutest little rusty bicycle planter & used the same fabrics to coordinate….check that out RIGHT HERE!!

Side Note: I actually showed this garland project live over on my Facebook page. You are welcome to check it out HERE.
