Do you love fabric as much as me? I don’t even actually sew, but I adore a good no-sew craft! And I get all the fall feels from this acorn! The textures & colors are simply beautiful!

This post may contain referral links to products used. This means I may earn a small commission if you make a purchase at no additional cost to you. I only refer products I use & love!

If you want to try this project out, here are the supplies you’ll need:

  • Wooden Acorn (12in tall, 1/4in thick)
  • 2 Wooden Leaves painted w/tiny holes drilled (4in tall, 1/8in thick)
  • Burlap
  • Various fabrics
  • Cording or Wiring (to wrap stem)
  • Paper “Blessed” or “Gather” word
  • Tacky Glue
  • Jute rope
  • Scissors
  • Raffia
  • Light Duty staper with 1/4in staples
  • Hot glue gun

The first step is to measure a piece of burlap large enough to wrap over the main part of the acorn. Then flip over and secure tightly with stapler. Hot glue would work for this step too, stapler was just a preference for me.

Now keep in mind that you can use any size acorn and do this technique! The acorn I used was only 12in tall.

Ripped plaid fabrics for acorn

Next you’ll want to rip some fabric pieces to wrap around the top portion of the acorn. I chose 3 fabric designs that weren’t identical, but coordinated well. I snipped a slit & pulled to create fabric strips. I LOVE ripped fabric & incorporate it into many of my crafts!

wrapping burlap and fabrics around acorn

Start attaching the fabric pieces in a pattern & securing on the back of acorn with staper or hot glue. Continue doing this until the entire top portion of acorn is covered. Mine ended up only needing 2 strips of each design…6 strips total. I really want to try this technique on a bigger acorn!

wrapping cording around acorn stem

Next, you’ll want to grab leather/suede cording, or brown floral wire to wrap around stem. Wrap all the way to the top…….until no wood is showing & secure with a little hot glue. I actually did one with leather cording & one with brown floral wire. It’s hard to pick a favorite!! I think anything brown would look fabulous! It just adds an extra pop of color & texture!

adding raffia and leaves to top of acorn

For added embellishments, I took some jute rope & attached some little wooden leaves I already had on hand. I then took a handful of raffia & tied a simple bow around stem.

attached paper word with tacky glue

I decided that burlap area on the acorn needed a little something extra. I had some chicken wire print cardstock, then cut the blessed and gather words out on my silhouette machine. I used a little tacky glue to attach it directly on top of the burlap. I think it is the finishing touch! A wooden or metal word would work too!

attaching piece of fabric on back of acorn

Now, this may just be a “me” thing, but I really love to have finished backs on my projects if it’s possible. I chose to trace my acorn on regular fabric and glued in down on the back of the acorn. Now it’s really finished to me!

Can you believe how precious this is!!?? It would look so cute on a fall mantel or even as a wreath embellishment! I’m definitely trying this technique out on some other cutouts!!
