Pizza Pan & Embossed Tile Christmas Ornament Decor
Believe it or not, this was my VERY FIRST Pizza Pan craft! After seeing this embossed tile/pizza pan concept on Pinterest by Lizzy/Erin crafters, I decided to give it my vintage spin! The antique wax on tile, custom trim & beautiful poinsettia pick really work beautifully together!
I think it makes a great lightweight door hanger, leaner or even wreath attachment! I’ll include a Supply List, Short Video Tutorial & Steps to help you in case you’d like to try!
I will be displaying this one proudly in my home!

- 12in Pizza Pan (Dollar Tree)
- 12in Embossed Plastic Wall Tile (Dollar Tree…..you may also find at Family Dollar)
- Piece of Scrap Beadboard (mine was in my vintage stash)
- Jute Rope (Dollar Tree)
- Ripped Fabric Strips (Hobby Lobby)
- Poinsettia/Greenery (Hobby Lobby)
- Cream Colored Chalk Paint (color “Plaster” by Waverly)
- Brown Antique Wax (Waverly brand)
- Paint Brushes (Walmart or find them on Amazon too Paint Brushes)
- Hot Glue Gun
- Scissors
- Wire Cutters
- Baby Wipes
- Painter’s Tape
- Burlap Ribbon
- Thin String & Marker to cut circle out of tile that will fit inside pizza pan (if you don’t want to try this method, some of my viewers mentioned that the Dollar Tree splatter screen is a perfect template. Or if your pizza pan has the semicircle paper label, you can use that as a template as well. Mine was missing the label, so I improvised with string measuring method. It wasn’t perfect, but because I used my braided trim you’d never be able to tell anyway)
Here are the STEPS to go along with the short Video Tutorial:
- First, you’ll need to cut a circle out of the embossed tile. Mine no longer had the semicircle paper tag to use as template, so I tied piece of string on marker & made a circle that way, I just made marks 1/4in in from edge of tall because the tile circle needs to be 11.5in. This method worked well enough, but my creative friends online shared another hack. It just so happens that the Dollar Tree splatter screen makes the perfect template to cut something that will inset on the pizza pan. Maybe you can come up with another idea too!
- Once your circle is cut, hot glue it to inset part of Pizza Pan
- Next, I painted the entire pan & tile with the color “Plaster” by Waverly
- Let that dry & paint a second coat of Plaster
- And then once that’s dry, brush on brown antique wax by Waverly & wipe back the excess with baby wipes. If you do that, you’ll see the wax stays down in the grooves & highlights the beautiful tile design. Continue wiping until raised paint color is as bright as you’d like. You can also mist a little water over that tile to help you wipe it back even better. Just a tip….if you want the paint color to stay truer to it’s original color, use clear coat or mod podge to fill in pores of chalk paint first. Let it dry & then move on to the antique wax step. It’ll just give you a brighter color, but still let that wax get down in grooves to make the tile design pop!
- After that was dry, I glued a scrap piece of vintage beadboard to the top. To mimic the top piece of an ornament. You can use lots of materials for this step….cardboard, wood shims, craft metal etc.
- Flip the entire ornament over & measure the Dollar Tree Jute Rope as a hanging string
- Once string was glued in place properly, I used some strips of burlap ribbon to cover all the glue and ends of rope. This step is not necessary of course…..I just like the finished look.
- Next, I used the same jute rope for hanging, ripped green plaid fabric & ripped red ticking fabric to create a custom braided trim. A tip is to use a little painter’s tape to secure the pieces on the table while you’re braiding. If you’re not sure how to rip fabric, simply cut a small slit to get started & grab and rip!
- I then hot glued the braided trim around the pizza pan where the tile & pizza pan meet. You can do this in sections & just match up where you start and stop. I did this 3 times & you can’t tell where I started and stopped.
- Next, I cut some greenery pieces from a bigger pick & hot glued to pan under the beadboard piece
- Finally, I used my wire cutters to cut off all the extra stems of the poinsettia and glued it down as well…..covering up the glue from the plain greenery.
I hope that you are truly INSPIRED to give this one a try! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE seeing all the variations of the ideas I share! Thanks for stopping by the blog! If you want to see another project I did with the embossed tile, check out my Rustic Acorn Craft!
