SUPPLIES I used:
- HP Envy 4500 series InkJet Printer (they don’t make my exact one, but something like THIS ONE I found on Amazon)
- Piece of 8.5X11in white computer paper
- FREE Bunny Graphic (TAP HERE to Download yours)
- Piece of Osnaburg Cotton fabric…slightly bigger than computer paper
- Spray Adhesive (Elmer’s Craft Bond) Or maybe try using school glue stick??
- 4 decorative uphostery tacks
- 7x9x1.5in Wood Block
- Scissors
- Hammer
- Small Iron (similar to THIS ONE on Amazon)
So just HOW did this one come together?? (these steps go quite well with the short video above in case you missed it)
- To prepare, I ironed a piece of Osnaburg cotton that was just barely bigger than my piece of 8.5X11 computer paper
- Next, I sprayed a light coat of Spray Adhesive onto the computer paper (protect your surface from overspray as this stuff is quite tacky)
- side note: other crafters have used School Glue Stick instead of spray adhesive….I haven’t personally tried this method, but if you do let me know!
- While spray glue was still wet, I laid down the fabric
- Then I needed to trim all the excess fabric to make the fabric match the size of computer paper….as you are trimming you may need to spray a bit more adhesive along the corners
- Then I loaded fabric/paper into my HP InkJet printer—fabric side down because that’s how my printer loads…..every printer is different, so just check you settings!….At this time, I do not know how a laser printer would work for this particular DIY
- Now I needed to download the FREE BUNNY PRINTABLE …..I decided to download the PNG image file so I could easily use Microsoft Word and resize the image to fit my block.
- On my printer to get a richer black color, I changed settings to use black ink only…..because FUN FACT even if your image is only black/white, your printer will still try to use a bit of color ink. Again, this may differ depending on your printer so you’ll just have to do some tests if you want to experiment
- Then I pushed PRINT…out it came perfectly
- Now before glue has time to dry, peel the fabric away from the computer paper.
- I chose to go with a tattered fabric look for my project, so next I cut slits & ripped down my bunny art fabric…..leaving a bit of margins on each side
- Lastly, I hammered in 4 decortive tacks to attach my fabric to a 7x9x1.5in wood block
Something you may want to KNOW: my wood block was already painted that green by me a looooonnngg time ago lol. It was just in my craft stash & perfect for this simple DIY! But I can tell you it was painted a true spring green color, distressed with sand paper & then glazed with a dark stain to antique the bright green and stain the wood that was exposed after sanding.
Also, I will continue to experiment with other printing techniques and will update this post to inlude that info too! It’s all about trying things out!!
I sure hope you enjoyed checking out this very Simple DIY Decor idea! I just ADORE how it came out!
Hope you’ll come back for even more creative ideas!!
