Here are some Simple Steps that go along with the Video Tutorial on YouTube Below:
- First, I began by removing the jute string that came on the heart
- Then I applied mod podge, tinted with truffle brown chalk paint, to metal part of heart and wiped back with a baby wipe
- Next, I painted truffle paint onto white wooden heart
- While that was drying, I applied small spots of mod podge to metal part and sprinked on cinnamon
- Then, applied one solid coat of mod podge to metal and wood parts of heart
- After mod podge was dry, I used a hot iron and teflon sheet to decoupage the old hymnal sheet to wood part of heart
- I used the Gator Sander to score edges & release excess hymnal paper
- Then applied a bit more mod podge to seal over the hymnal sheet
- To add some depth & dimension, I applied distress ink to edges of hymnal heart using a dobber
- Once everything was dry, I attached the heart to the reclaimed wood using 2 upholstery tacks
- For even more texture, I created a little rag bow using osnaburg fabric & jute string
- Then attached the bow to the top of the board using a heavy duty stapler
- To embellish the area with bow, I also attached green berry sprigs & pink daisies…using a combo of staple & hot glue
- Optional to add a hanger to back or simply use as a leaner/on an easel
The results of this faux rusty finish is quite Amazing don’t you think?
I couldn’t be happier with it & I’d just LOVE to know if you try one too!
