After removing hardward from ceiling fan blade….
Using a Gator Zip Sander, I gave a light scuff sand to the side of the blade I’d be crafing on.
Brush Mod Podge over entire blade & apply crinkled tissue paper to the bottom 2/3 of the blade.
Smooth out & use the gator sander to score the edges to release excess paper.
Now it’s time to cut a piece of Embossed Wallpaper…
This HUGE ROLL of embossed wallpaper is one of my favorite crafty items.
I simply made an impression along the edges of the blade and cut a piece to size.
Using a bit of hot glue and the mod podge I already brushed on, I attached the piece of wallpaper to 1/3 of the blade.
Next will be painting the wood shim & wallpaper with black paint.
Before attaching shim, paint the crinkled tissue paper section with creamy chalk paint.
I chose to add the tissue paper first to give the background a fun texture.
Once paint had dried, use Hot Glue to attach wooden shim where the black and cream paint meet.
I decided to tilt the shim (brim of the hat), but you can do it however you like. I just think it adds a bit more personality.
To highlight embossed design, I applied a bit of white wax and wiped back revealing the beautiful embossing.
Next, I sketched out a snowman face in pencil.
Then I painted the eyes with same black paint as hat.
I ended up doing 2 coats of black on eyes, allowing first coat to dry before applying 2nd coat.
A fun pro painting tip, use the rounded end of a paint brush to make small dots for snowman smile.
You may want to use a detail paint brush to round out the smile dots if they need it.
To add a bit of character, I cut a triangle nose out of corrugated card stock.
I painted the card stock orange and attached with hot glue.
Lastly, have fun adding embellishments that are your style!
Using hot glue, I attached these fun details….
- Ripped fabric scarf layered with wired burlap ribbon
- Button in the center of scarf
- On hat brim, Christmas floral pick layered with wired burlap ribbon
- Touches of white paint, mod podge & diamond dust glitter
I just LOVE how he came out & hope you’ll give it a try too!
