Wood Bead Corn DIY

Okay y’all, this one is pretty cute! I have been really wanting to create a unique decor item using wood beads. I don’t use many wood beads in my crafting, but I really ADORE how this one came out!

I did choose to leave the beads natural & to me it looks like white corn! I can see making a bunch & styling them in a gathering basket!! I also think it would look lovely painted harvest colors……like Indian Corn. Whichever way you choose, it’s just so fun to see it come together!

Update to this original blog post……. I did actually try to do one to look like Indian Corn & just LOVE how it came out! I was a guest inside a fellow crafter’s private group & decided to try this variation. I used watered down chalk paint to dye beads. I chose a few different harvest colors & soaked the beads for just a couple minutes. Once they were dry, I proceeded with the tutorial in this blog post! One other small change I made was to use actual strips of corn husks instead of the raffia! It’s always fun to do different spins on your own ideas! You can have so much fun painting/staining the beads different colors!

This post may contain referral links to products used. This means I may earn a small commission if you make a purchase at no additional cost to you. I only refer products I use & love!

Here are the SUPPLIES I used:

  • 10mm Wood Beads with hold pre-drilled
  • Copper Wiring that will fit in bead holes
  • Raffia
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Wire Cutters
  • Scissors

STEP 1:

Using wire cutters, cut 4 pieces of copper wiring, approx. 16in long

STEP 2:

Gather them together & twist to create the bottom of corn. Lay back out so there are 8 sections to string beads.

STEP 3:

Start stringing your wood beads onto each of the 8 sections. I ended up using 12 beads per section, so if you follow my tutorial, you’d need 96 beads.

STEP 4:

Step 4 is almost kind of like a few steps in one, so hopefully the pictures help. I gather all the 8 sections & choose 1 of the copper wire pieces to wrap around to hold it all together. I then bend down all the wiring to create a sturdy part to do Step 5.

STEP 5:

Next, I chose to take a piece of raffia & wrap around the copper wire bundle. This will help camoflauge it a bit before Step 6.

STEP 6:

Next, I gathered a small bunch of raffia to embellish the top. I chose to attach this raffia bunch using a smaller piece of copper wiring. I simply wrapped it around the top right above where the wood beads stop.

STEP 7:

Lastly, you may have some raffia trimming to do. You will also want to shape the sections of the corn to make it look even more like an ear of corn. I just love how pliable to wiring is…it’s super easy to work with!

How simple & neat is this?! I’m definitely making more of these & will try some painted cozy fall colors!! If you’d prefer to see a video of me making this, check out the video tutorial below!

loved this variation for a farmhouse looking Indian Corn!

I want to give a shoutout to fellow DIYer, Amber Strong. Her Candy Corn plastic bead/pipe cleaner project was a great inspiration for this Wooden Bead White Corn project! I only saw a picture at first & created my own way to put it together, but she has an awesome tutorial too! See how she made hers HERE!
