Here are the SUPPLIES I used to create these XOXO Valentine’s Beadboard Signs:
- Reclaimed Vintage Beadboard (my pieces measure 13inX3.25in)
- Small Grapevine Hearts (Hobby Lobby Sku#1551027)
- Jute Braided Cording (Hobby Lobby Sku#340596)
- Hot Glue Gun
- Scissors
- Silcone Finger Protectors (Dollar Tree)
- Brown Buttons (Walmart)
- Thin Jute String (Walmart)
- For the vertical sign, I used a Jute Braided Trim but I can’t remember where I picked this one up
Here are the DIRECTIONS for creating these XOXO Valentine’s Beadboard Signs:
I’m showing you this XOXO Valentine’s Beadboard Sign made 2 Ways…Vertical & Horizontal
For each sign, I used 2 of these grapevine hearts.
Pro Tip: Be sure to check the wedding section for Valentine’s Supplies instead of just the seasonal Valentine’s section. There are some really beautiful items in the His/Hers line at Hobby Lobby!
For the horizontal sign, I used some Braided Jute Cording.
You’ll need 4 pieces, each cut about 3.25in long.
It’s an Important Step to lay out the entire XOXO sign before beginning to hot glue.
I do suggest wearing silicone finger protectors because you’ll be working very closely with hot glue.
Once you’re happy with the spacing of the hearts & jute Xs, go ahead and hot glue the first piece of jute cording.
For the nicest finished look, I chose to cut the 2nd piece of jute in half.
By cutting the 2nd piece of jute into 2 pieces, I was able to glue it and give the illusion it was overlapping. If I had actually let it overlap, there would be a large hump and it just wouldn’t look as nice…in my opinion.
Also, due to splitting it, you’ll need to cut off the excess to make it match the other part of the X.
Next, I hot glued a little button in the center of the Jute X.
Then, just repeated the same steps for the other X.
Now, on to glueing the Grapevine Hearts…..but here’s a helpful tip for attaching those to the board.
Due to the hearts being made of organic vine material, it can be an uneven surface to get good adhesion when hot glueing onto another surface.
So a little hack I like to use is to prep the hearts by glueing something onto the back of the heart…something that’ll match your project even if it showed a little…..in this case, a thin jute works.
For the hearts, I glued thinner jute string in a few key spots that would work the best for attaching them to wood.
You would definitely want to use silicone finger protectors for this part….you are working very close to the glue.
If you skip this step, you would risk the hearts falling off eventually OR big globs of glue that distract from the overall project beauty.
Now that the hearts are prepped, simply add hot glue to the jute spots and then place onto wood board.
I’m telling you this will really make your project top notch! Repeat this step for both hearts.
Another helpful TIP, use a hair dryer on high heat to melt away all those glue strings.
This hack really works wonders and projects like this one end up with many glue strings. It’s the finishing touch and this cute project is DONE!
The only change I made to the VERTICAL XOXO Valentine’s Beadboard Sign, was using a different braided jute.
This jute laid flat, so no need to cut before glueing criss cross onto board. Both ways are perfect!
