And now for the directions for this Easy Framed Christmas Ornament
Step 1: Select Your Frame
Choose a 4×4-inch frame to serve as the base of your ornament. Hobby Lobby often has great options during sales, or you can repurpose a thrifted or unused frame from home. Scalloped edges or unique details add extra charm!
Step 2: Add a Photo or Christmas Card
Pick a meaningful photo or festive Christmas card to place inside the frame. For my ornament, I used a photo of my daughters in tartan plaid, but this is your chance to personalize it. If you want flexibility, select an image that can be swapped out later.
Step 3: Attach the Hanger
- Cut a piece of jute rope to the desired length for hanging.
- Use a staple gun to attach the rope to the back of the frame securely.
- Cover the staples with buttons for a polished look. Apply a small amount of hot glue to affix the buttons over the staple ends.
Step 4: Create a Decorative Bow
- Use tartan or festive ribbon to create a bow. A bow jig can help you achieve a neat and symmetrical design.
- Trim the ribbon tails at an angle for a professional finish.
- Seal the edges of the ribbon using a lighter to prevent fraying.
Step 5: Assemble Your Ornament
- Attach the bow to the frame using hot glue. Position it where it complements the design and adds a festive touch.
- For extra detail, glue a button in the center of the bow to tie the look together.
Step 6: Optional Variation
Instead of a photo, try framing a beautiful Christmas card. This variation allows you to showcase festive artwork while still personalizing your ornament.
Tips and Inspiration
- Gift Idea: These ornaments make wonderful handmade gifts. Add a family photo, a favorite holiday memory, or a special card for a truly personal touch.
- Theme Coordination: Match your ribbon and buttons to the colors in your photo or card for a cohesive look.
- Reuse Frames: Don’t hesitate to use frames you already have. A coat of paint can make an old frame look new and festive.
- Not just for Christmas….ornaments like these would look great on Valentine’s, Easter & Fall Trees too!
