Gather these SUPPLIES to create a Fabric Christmas Tree:
- Christmas Tree Template (11.5inX10in wood from Dollar Tree)
- Fabric for Tree & Bow (Hobby Lobby)
- Burlap Ribbon
- Osnaburg Muslin Fabric (Hobby Lobby or CLICK HERE)
- Polyfil (or repurposed stuffing from old pillows)
- Rubber Stamps
- Black Ink Pad (Find it HERE)
- Marker for tracing
- Pinking Shears
- Scissors
- Hot Glue Gun (CLICK HERE)
- Iron
- Jute Twine
- Faux Florals (holly from thifted wreath)
- Craft Cinnamon Sticks (Hobby Lobby)
- Rusty Bell
Follow Along with these Directions:
First, you’ll want to Iron the fabric you’ll be using for the tree shape
Next, trace the tree template onto backside of fabric using marker
Other template Options for the Fabric Christmas Tree:
If you don’t have this exact wood tree from Dollar Tree, here are some ideas
- Find one online and print on paper/card stock
- Using a Cricut/Silhouette machine to cut one out on cardstock
- Foam cutouts in the craft section
- Other wood/metal cutouts in Christmas craft sections
- Try your hand at sketching one of your own….fold paper in half and sketch half a tree then cut out to create symmetrical tree
Then trace an additional tree, total of 2 tree shapes out of fabric
Using pinking shears, cut both trees out of fabric using the traced lines as a guide (or you can fold and pin together with straight pins and only cut once)
Hot Glue (or sew if you know how) both trees together along the edges with design facing outwards….leaving enough of an opening at the bottom for you to stuff with polyfil
Stuff the glued trees with polyfil, pushing into corners and top to make it fluffy and full
Once tree is stuffed fully, hot glue up the rest of the tree along the edges
Next, cut a piece of burlap for pocket
Then cut a slightly smaller piece of Osnaburg muslin for the pocket too
Use black ink & rubber stamps to add festive words…I chose Peace on Earth
Several more ideas you could stamp on your Fabric Christmas Tree:
- Personalize with names or Family Names (Ex: Hammons Family Christmas)
- Joy to the World
- Merry Christmas
- Joyeux Noel
- Ho Ho Ho
- Feliz Navidad
- Holly Jolly
- Merry & Bright
- Silent Night
- Holy Night
- A child is born
- ’tis the season
- Let it Snow
Now for the layered patch look, hot glue edges of muslin to burlap and hot glue 3 of the burlap sides to the tree…leaving the top open as a fillable pocket
Take a small piece of pinched or tied burlap and hot glue at top of tree
Rip a piece of Red Ticking Fabric to create a bow and hot glue on top of burlap
Hot Glue a Rusty Bell in the center of the Bow (a button, pine cone or snowflake would look cute too)
For the final step, fill the Pocket with faux florals, cinnamon sticks etc.
