Farmhouse Makeover on Dollar General Sheep Decor

I can’t wait for you to see how this farmhouse makeover turned out!

This charming sheep planter immediately grabbed my attention on the aisles of Dollar General!

For the record, I think the pewter finish is actually nice as is….BUT my crafty self thought of all the ways I could treat it like a blank canvas!

Ultimately I chose a simple farmhouse finish, BUT I also think it would look great in these finishes too:

  • Antique Gold
  • Antique Copper
  • Patina Copper
  • Antique Bronze
  • Crackle/Chippy Layered
  • Rusty
  • Cast Iron
  • Rusty Cast Iron
  • Or any color that would match your decor!

LOVE the Quality of this Sheep Planter Piece at Dollar General!

Now THIS Sheep Planter is same pewter color as Dollar General one, but 3X the price…and THIS ONE has a similar farmhouse finish and also 3X the price!

So I’m LOVING that mine was ONLY $10!! SCORE!!!!

Here’s a List of SUPPLIES I used on this simple farmhouse makeover:

  • Sheep Planter ($10 at Dollar General)
  • Waverly “Plaster” Chalk Paint (Walmart)
  • Krylon “Dark Vintage” Antique Wax (Lowe’s or GET HERE)
  • Baby Wipes
  • Paint Brushes (TAP HERE for my favorite ones)

And the STEPS are just as simple as the supplies:

  1. Paint one coat of plaster chalk paint, let dry
  2. Then paint 2nd coat of plaster chalk paint, let dry
  3. Next, apply generous coat of antique wax (working in sections)
  4. Now wipe off excess wax with baby wipe
  5. Lastly, add extra wax to define any areas
  6. Let dry & style!
  7. Optional Step: If using on covered porch/patio area, be sure to seal with a polycrylic/clear spray….I’m using mine indoors, so opted not to seal and lose the matte finish

Note: another optional step is to seal or clear wax before applying the antique wax….this protects the pores of the paint and allows more control over how strong the antique wax looks.

I plan to use this piece as a staple in my home! Can’t wait to move it around from room to room and give it different purposes!

Here are a few ways I’m thinking I could style & use mine:

  • Faux Florals/Greenery any room
  • Books/Jounals/Bible in bedroom/nursery
  • Notebooks/Office Supplies in Office/Study
  • Guest towels/soaps in bathroom
  • Produce/snacks/coffee pods/assorted teas in the kitchen
  • Sponge/Dish Brushes in kitchen
  • Utensils/Napkins for entertaining
  • Daily mail in the entryway
  • Dryer Sheets/Detergent Pods in the laundry room
  • Remotes/Coasters in the family room
  • Paint Supplies/Ribbons in the craft room

It’s just a beautiful, versatile piece that will look great in any room!

I’d love to know your ideas too!
