Gather these SUPPLIES to create a Framed Cinnamon Stick Christmas Tree:

  • An 8×10 Gold Picture Frame (mine was thrifted)
  • 8×10 Piece of Cardboard
  • 8×10 Piece of Music Cardstock (from Hobby Lobby pack)
  • Crafting Cinnamon Sticks (Hobby Lobby SKU: 6987036 & SKU: 6867345)
  • Wood Piece for tree trunk (birch piece from Dollar Tree)
  • Decoupage Glue (Matte Mod Podge)
  • Cream Matte Acrylic Craft Paint (“Vintage White” by Folk Art)
  • Rub‘nBuff (Antique Gold)
  • Rubber Glove to apply rub‘nbuff
  • Rusty Star
  • Paint Brushes
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Scissors

Follow Along with these Directions:

First, cut the music cardstock to match the size of your frame

Next, using decoupage glue and paint brush, apply generous coat of glue to cardboard and attach music art cardstock

Now place the cardboard back into the frame

To start creating tree, you’ll want to use hot glue to attach the wood trunk piece.

TIP: if you don’t have a wood piece to use, a repurposed piece of spindle would be SUPER CUTE too!

Now to make the tree shape using cinnamon sticks.

Gently cut to make different sizes. Once you choose how long the bottom piece will be, you can then cut each piece above barely a smidge shorter to create a triangle shape.

Don’t have cinnamon sticks?..consider using

  • Wood Sticks
  • Wood dowels
  • Greenery pieces
  • Jute Rope/Cording
  • Rolled Up paper pieces
  • Repurposed trim pieces
  • Even folding pieces of paper tubes to look like cinnamon sticks

I highly encourage you to cut and lay out cinnamon stick pieces BEFORE you glue down.

Once you have your tree triangle laid out, then begin attaching each piece using a line of hot glue.

Start with piece touching the trunk piece and work your way up

After all your cinnamon sticks are attached with glue, put on a rubber glove or use a detail paint brush to apply a bit of antique gold rub’nbuff to edges of cinnamon stick, trunk & rusty star

Attach a rusty star to top of tree using more hot glue

To create a look of “snow” use a small paint brush to dab some paint on the cinnamon sticks, trunk & star

You can even use a product like Snow-Tex for added texure.

Feel free to add even more embellishments to match your other Christmas decor!

Embellishment Ideas:

  • Red Berries
  • Greenery
  • Garland
  • Faux Christmas Presents
  • Spanish Moss
  • Angel
  • Bird
  • Little ornaments
