So I’ve had a few of these little wood box drawers in my craft stash for quite a while! I really LOVE coming up with budget-friendly ornament ideas for Christmas & this one is soooooo easy!

You can really have fun with fabric and embellishment choices….and even try scrapbook paper instead! I just adore the texture the fabric gives though!

Enjoy the short video tutorial below and I’ll include a Supply & Steps List as well!

  • Red Striped Fabric (Hobby Lobby)
  • Osnaburg Cotton Fabric (Walmart)

  • Jute Twine

As you can see, you can make 2 different ornaments with just one of the box sets…but I did use different sized fabric piece for each box. For the bigger box, I used an 8x12in piece of Osnaburg fabric to wrap & the smaller box I used a 7x12in piece of the red striped fabric.

In the short video tutorial above, you’ll be able to see the STEPS in action, but here is a list too:

  1. I used a combination of Mod Podge & Hot Glue to wrap fabric around the boxes. 7x12in fabric piece for smaller box, 8×12 fabric piece for bigger box worked great for me.
  2. For smaller box, I cut two 13in jute string pieces & glued onto present. For bigger box, I ripped a 30in fabric strip about 1in wide & wrapped around box and then tied knot at top.
  3. Next, take a thinner jute hanging string and glue onto top of box. As you add the embellishments, be sure not to glue this string down.
  4. After that, I glued down a piece of boxwood greenery.
  5. Then I made a simple bow with two 9in ripped fabric pieces. Criss crossing and tying in middle.
  6. Glue that bow in center right over where the hanging string is glued down.
  7. I glued down a mini pinecone in center of bow.
  8. Then I took a piece of the Osnaburg cotton and made a tag with rubber stamps and black ink. I glued that right under where the greenery hangs down the front.
  9. Lastly, knot the hanging string at top & snip the excess string (you can skip adding the hanging string if you’d like to use these as mini decor for dough bowls or tiered trays)
