- Ornament Shape (Dollar Tree)
- 12in Square Embossed Wall Tile (Dollar Tree)
- Red Chalk Paint (“Rustic Red” by Dixie Belle)
- Antique Wax (Waverly Brown)
- Ground Cinnamon
- Mod Podge
- Cinnamon Sticks (Hobby Lobby)
- Rusty Bells (Hobby Lobby)
- Greenery (Hobby Lobby)
- Matte Black Paint (Folk Art Licorice)
- Ripped Drop Cloth Canvas
- Ripped Red Striped Fabric
- Jute String
- Scissors
- Hot Glue Gun
- Putty Knife
- Paint Brushes
- Marker
Here are the STEPS to go along with the short Video Tutorial:
- First, I traced the ornament shape onto Embossed Tile & cut out
- Next, using a putty knife I popped off the metal piece at the top of the ornament
- Then I painted mod podge over entire ornament top
- And while mod podge was still wet, I sprinkled on cinnamon
- Seal the ornament topper with more mod podge & let dry all the way
- While that is drying, I glued the tile circle onto Ornament shape
- I painted the tile with red chalk paint & let dry
- After that was dry, I painted on a 2nd coat of red chalk paint
- After red was fully dry, I brushed entire piece with brown antique wax
- And before it had time to dry, I wiped off excess with baby wipes
- I then used matte black paint in various spots for added depth & interest
- Next, just for added texture and rusty look, I did varying spots with mod podge/cinnamon technique
- I ended up sealing the entire ornament with mod podge
- Next, I used the same black paint & brown antique wax to dab over ornament top piece
- I then used hot glue to reattach ornament topper onto ornament
- Then I hot glued pieces of greenery
- I tied 2 rusty bells to jute string and glued those down next
- Then I made a scrap fabric bow using strips of ripped canvas drop cloth & ripped red ticking fabric. I used 3 strips of each fabric and criss crossed them and tied with jute string
- I used hot glue to secure bow in center of greenery
- I then glued another rusty bell in center of bow
- As one final touch, I glued a few cinnamon sticks on top of greenery
I didn’t add a hanging string or ribbon, but you could easily tie one on the ornament metal piece at top!
This creation is perfect as a leaner, wreath attachment, or small door hanger!! Be Inspired & thanks for stopping by the blog!! –Summer :)
