Here are the SUPPLIES I used:
(I also included referral links for you highlighted in GREEN. Hope that helps you!)
- 12in Wood Acorn Cutout (Dollar Tree)
- 12x12in Plastic Embossed Wall Tile (Dollar Tree or Family Dollar)
- Chalk Paints (Waverly brand in colors “Plaster” & “Moss”)
- Acrylic Paint (Folk Art brand in color “Burnt Umber”)
- Mod Podge
- Cinnamon
- Hot Glue Gun with finger protectors
- Jute Twine
- Burlap Ribbon (Hobby Lobby)
- Distress Ink Pad in black (Hobby Lobby)
- Fall Floral Pick (Hobby Lobby)
- Acorn Top (for center of bow)
- Osnaburg Cotton Fabric (Walmart)
- Scissors/Wire Cutters
Here are the STEPS: & then you can watch the short video tutorial below as well if you’d like!
- First, I traced the bottom part of acorn onto the plastic tile with a marker & cut it out with scissors
- I used a hot glue gun on low to attach the plastic tile onto bottom part of acorn
- I applied mod podge to top part of acorn & while it was still wet, sprinkled on cinnamon
- Then I sealed that top part with more mod podge
- While that was still wet, I dabbed/brushed on a little bit of the burnt umber paint
- I then used a combination of Waverly chalk paints “Plaster”, “Moss” & Cinnamon to create a weathered tile look
- Once I achieved my desired look, I sealed the bottom part with mod podge too
- Next, I wrapped jute string onto stem of acorn & secured with hot glue
- Then, I glued a piece of ribbon across acorn where the top & bottom parts meet
- I hot glued pieces of a floral pick down
- Then I made a bow out of the Osnaburg ripped fabric & glued down over the floral pieces
- To give the bow a finished look, I hot glued a real acorn top in the center and snipped all the loops
- Lastly, I took a black ink pad & applied to edges/various spots to give it even more visual interest
As you can see in the video, it was such a creative process to get that faux rusty metal tile look! & didn’t that wooden acorn make the perfect piece to get crafty with…..really so simple?! Can’t wait to create even more creations using those beautiful tiles!
