Adding painters tape to Valentine's Placemat Pillow

To get started, I’ll be using 2 of the 4 placemats to make one pillow.

Rubber Stamping is so much fun & I was very excited to use my really nice IOD Rubber Stamps in Swoosh Font & Typesetting Font.

Before stamping, I found it most helpful to lay out the stamps to figure out spacing. I used a ruler to measure from edges as well.

An extra tip is to use painter’s tape to mark your area and keep the stamping straight. The tape really makes an excellent guide for bigger stamping projects like this Valentine’s Placemat Pillow.

Another helpful tool for stamping with these type of stamps are Acrylic Blocks.

The Swoosh Font has a hand-lettered cursive look, so even if I had an acrylic block big enough to pick up the Love word all at once, I really couldn’t do that.

I needed to slightly overlap each letter, connecting them to look like cursive.

So I used the arylic block and stamped each letter individully.

For Best Results: Always good idea to start in the center and work your way out to finish a stamped word….I started with the “v”, then the “e”, “o”, and lastly the “l”

To avoid transferring ink to the block, apply ink as shown in the picture above.

Even if I had a stamp pad large enough, I wouldn’t push the stamp onto an ink pad….you have much more control if you apply the ink this way

Now for the word “YOU”, I started with applying the “O”, then the “U”, lastly the “Y”.

It’s important to carefully place the stamps down and apply gentle, but firm pressure over the entire block without shifting the stamp.

Since these are higher quality stamps, I want to keep them clean.

I bought some IOD brand stamp cleaning solution and cleaned each stamp before placing them back in the package. There are many brands of cleaning solution for this…..

I’m not good about cleaning my less costly stamp sets, but you bet I’ll keep these cleaned. I simply soaked a paper towel in the solution and rubbed ink right off the stamp.

Using Fabric Hot Glue to attach Valentine's Placemat Pillow

Now it’s time to glue the 2 placemats together…one with stamped Love You design and one plain one.

I do not sew…let me repeat…I DO NOT Sew, sooooo I LOVE using hot glue for no-sew crafts.

More specifically I chose the Surebonder Fabric Hot Glue. Technically it’s for projects that will be laundered…..so if you just want to use regular hot glue on this particular project, you absolutely can.

Continue to glue the edge seams together, leaving a big enough gap to add polyfil stuffing.

Instead of brand new polyfil, I had an old pillow in my craft stash that I repurposed to stuff the Valentine’s Placemat Pillow.

Hot Glueing Valentine's Placemat Pillow

Once it was filled to my liking, I finished attaching the 2 placemats with more fabric hot glue.

I like to go around the edges and do a tug test to look for any spots that need an extra touch of glue.

Once that check is done, my Valentine’s Placemat Pillow was complete! YAY!
