This one is just plain charming! I had some scrap beadboard pieces from our kitchen backsplash project & decided to make the cutest, vintage carrot decor!

The embellishments are up to you, but I only used a few simple supplies! And even if primitive, vintage style isn’t your vibe, you could totally make these with brighter colored fabric! Keep scrolling & you’ll see the short and sweet video tutorial+a list of supplies!!

Supplies to create fabric carrots on vintage beadboard

Here are the SUPPLIES I used:

  • Scrap Beadboard in various sizes
  • White Chalk Paint (Dixie Belle brand in color “Fluff”)
  • Baby Wipes
  • Rustic Orange Fabric (Hobby Lobby)
  • Green Fabric (Hobby Lobby)
  • Greenery (from Hobby Lobby Garland item#272559)
  • Spanish Moss
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Paint Brush
  • Scissors
  • Scotch Tape (in case you wanna try my little hack I show in the tutorial video)

Here’s an overview of How I Made Them:

  • The original stained beadboard was beautiful, but I wanted my orange fabric to pop, so I gave it a coat of white chalk paint.
  • Once nearly dry, I used a baby wipes to wet distress….which simply means I rubbed in a few spots to reveal the original stain color. Once it fully dries, wipe the spots again to remove any hazing.
  • Next I ripped some orange fabric pieces…..to do this you make a small slit as wide as you want your fabric & pull to rip! My pieces were about an 1in wide, but there’s no exact width you’d need. The different widths may just give you a bit of a different look once you attach to beadboard. Also, not all fabric rips the same, so make sure you try & use a thinner cotton material for this. It’ll work much better.
  • How long your fabric needs to be will solely depend on your boards.
  • Now here’s a little hack I used for laying out the fabric in a carrot shape….you can try without it, but I loved how it helped me! Use scotch tape as a temporary hold while you attach fabric to board, then you can go in with hot glue to secure.
  • Okay…..leaving some room at the top of the board for the greenery, begin twisting & winding your orange fabric into a triangle “carrot” shape. The twisting is very important to give you a full, shabby look! Once you have your shape taped down & it looks how you like, secure with hot glue….but be sure NOT to glue the top part where you’ll be able to tuck that greenery!
  • Next take some greenery & glue at top. I absolutely LOVE the whispy greenery I used for this one. It is pieces of a Hobby Lobby garland (see supply list above for item#)
  • Then I glued a bit of spanish moss where orange fabric meets the greenery. I also love the texture this adds!
  • Lastly, I ripped a piece of green fabric & tied a shoestring bow. Then glued that on top of moss!
  • TA DA!!
